A College of Arts and Science faculty member and two alumni are winners of 2020 YWCA Saskatoon Women of Distinction Awards.

Dr. Pamela Downe (PhD), a professor in the college’s Department of Archaeology and Anthropology, was named the winner in the Research and Technology category during the awards ceremony, which was held online on Oct. 16. Downe is a medical anthropologist with expertise in community-based engagement, infectious disease research, and maternal health research. She has served as president of the Canadian Anthropology Society (CASCA), co-chair of the American Anthropological Association’s joint conference with CASCA, and vice-chair of University Council.

Two College of Arts and Science alumni were also honoured during the awards ceremony. Lisa Mooney (BA’02) was announced as the winner in the Business and Professions category, while Nicole Shoaf (BA’99) was a recipient in the Health and Athletics category.

The YWCA Women of Distinction Awards are recognized nationally as one of the most prestigious awards for women. Since 1982, the YWCA Saskatoon Women of Distinction Awards have honoured hundreds of women for their inspirational leadership and extraordinary contributions to their community.
