The Trish Monture Centre

The Trish Monture Centre is a central space in the College of Arts and Science dedicated to student success. Visitors to "the TMC" (Arts 250) will find a bright and welcoming student space, perfect to visit and study. The TMC is smudge-friendly and food-friendly, with access to Wi-fi, a microwave, and kitchenette.

Trish Monture (1958–2010)

Dr. Patricia “Trish” Monture-Angus (1958–2010) was an accomplished scholar, lawyer, writer, mother, activist, and highly respected faculty member in the College of Arts and Science. In November 2014, the Aboriginal Student Achievement and Transition Program Office was renamed in honour of her profound contributions. Programming coordinated through the Trish Monture Centre includes academic initiatives, student cohort programs, and holistic academic advising that honours the diversity of learning experiences students bring to our campus community.

TMC Academic Initiatives

Academic initiatives coordinated through the Trish Monture Centre provide a strong start to 60+ degree programs in the College of Arts and Science, and beyond. With an explicit focus on building academic skills and confidence, TMC courses aim to meet students at point of potential (vs. preparation) and celebrate the knowledge traditions of our Treaty spaces with culturally-responsive instruction, tutorial groups, and developmental academic coaching grounded in a lifelong learning framework.

Students registering through Indigenous Student Achievement Pathways (ISAP) and University of Saskatchewan Transition Entrance Program (USTEP), and students who have completed fewer than 60 credit units (academic years 1 and 2) have priority registration in TMC Academic Initiatives.

TMC Academic Advising

TMC Academic Advisors work from a position of "learning together" with students in ISAP and USTEP First Year Learning Communities, and with students in general undergraduate programs who have experienced nontraditional pathways to post-secondary education.

Our goal is to help students to find a sense of balance and momentum during their time as a student, allowing them to prioritize academics while growing as whole and healthy individuals. We offer students a spirit of friendship and respect as we walk with them through their studies and lifelong learning journey.

We support student preparation and participation in curricular and extended learning opportunities, provide coaching on time management and financial advocacy, and meet student inquiries through a personalized lens.

TMC Academic Advisors for Indigenous Students work fluidly with the Undergraduate Student Advising Office (in Arts 265) to greet students’ mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual selves with expertise specific to their student experience.
