About me

Tom Steele served as the College of Arts and Science’s Associate Dean of Undergraduate Affairs from July, 2002-2010. He joined the U of S in 1992 as an assistant professor in the Department of Physics & Engineering Physics, and was promoted to the rank of full professor in 2000.

Steele received a B.Sc. (Honours) in Applied Mathematics and Theoretical Physics from the University of Western Ontario (UWO) in 1983. He received his Ph.D. in these same fields from UWO in 1988. In 1989 he completed a NATO/NSERC Postdoctoral Fellowship at the University of Cambridge (England).

Dr. Steele has been recognized as an outstanding professor through various honours, including the College of Arts and Science Teaching Excellence Award in 2002 and the University of Saskatchewan Students’ Union Teaching Excellence Award in 2000. In addition to his work with undergraduate students, he has supervised many graduate student theses and continues to supervise graduate degree candidates. His research in theoretical particle physics, supported by NSERC research grants since the beginning of his academic career at the U of S, has been widely published in numerous refereed journals. He is also widely sought as a guest lecturer and presenter at conferences around the world.
