About me



Jennifer Crane is an artist who joined the Department of Art and Art History in 2005. She is Professor and Chair of the Photography/Digital Imaging Area

Professor Crane teaches classes in photography covering a range of processes in both chemical and digital methods small and large format cameras. She specializes in large-scale digital printing, historical processes, pinhole imagery and stereo photography. Crane’s research explores the relationship between the body and the lens in both historical and contemporary photography using a combination of experimental, analogue and digital photographic processes. Through the creation of still photographs, stereographic imagery, book works, video, and fictional photographic archives her work engages with themes of memory, place, narrative, documentary and archival practices. Her work has been exhibited widely both nationally, (including Gallery44,Toronto, La Central Powerhouse,Montreal, Dazibao,Montreal, The University of Lethbridge Art Gallery,Lethbridge, Eastern Edge, St. John's, The Floating Gallery, Winnipeg Mann Art Gallery,Prince Albert, PAVEDArts,Saskatoon, AP Gallery, Saskatoon,  The Yukon Art Centre, Whitehorse,  and internationally (including Houston Centre of Photography, USA, Singapore International Photo Festival, Gallery Lichtblick, Germany, The National Society of Fine Arts, Lisbon, Portugal,  MOMA,Tbilisi, Georgia, Gallery Zall, Wuhan, China, and Centro Colomba Americano in Medellin Colombia).  She is represented by AP Gallery in Saskatoon and her work can be found in private and public collections including The Art Gallery of Nova Scotia. Crane has received funding from the Alberta Foundation for the Arts, the Canada Council for the Arts, and the Social Sciences and Humanities Research. In 2007 she received a Leaders Opportunity Fund Award from The Canada Foundation for Innovation to fund her Lens Based Digital Research Lab located in The Humanities and Fine Arts Digital Research Lab. This was the first CFI awarded in the Fine Arts at The University of Saskatchewan.

 Professor Crane has taught photography in the Department of Art and Art History at The University of Saskatchewan since 2005. She has also taught at NSCAD University, (Halifax, NS), Memorial University, (Corner Brook,NF), Thompson River University, ( Kamloops, BC) and The University of Lethbridge, (Lethbridge,AB)
