Research

I'm interested in how oxygen sensing and uptake is altered in organisms that live or encounter low-oxygen environments! My research uses a wide variety of non-model organisms (e.g. deer mice, waterfowl, songbirds, mole rats, invertebrates) and integrative techniques (e.g. whole-animal experiments, histology, enzyme assays)! My research on songbirds will be investigating how wildfire smoke alters their ability to conduct migratory flight! I'm also looking to enhance our understanding of oxygen sensing in invertebrates (e.g. crabs, snails, tunicates), which we know nothing about!
