College of Arts and Science faculty, staff and students honoured with USSU awards

College of Arts and Science faculty, staff and students were among this year’s winners of awards from the University of Saskatchewan Students’ Union (USSU).

Selected by students, the Teaching Excellence Award recognizes those who have demonstrated enthusiasm, organization and fairness in evaluation, providing exceptional commitment and support to their classrooms. The 2020-21 College of Arts and Science Teaching Excellence Award recipients are:

  • Dr. Adam Bourassa (PhD), Department of Physics and Engineering Physics
  • Dr. Benjamin Hoy (PhD), Department of History
  • Dr. Jan Gelech (PhD), Department of Psychology (soon to be renamed the Department of Psychology and Health Studies)
  • Dr. Josh Morrison (PhD), Department of English and Women’s and Gender Studies Program
  • Dr. Kyle McLeister (PhD), Department of History

The Academic Advising Award honours outstanding delivery of academic advising at the University of Saskatchewan (USask) and serves to recognize the importance academic advising has on enhancing the student experience. The 2020-21 recipient is:

  • Catherine Todd-McCoy, academic coach/advisor, Transition Program Learning Communities

The USSU Centre Awards recognize those among the USask faculty, staff, students and alumni who have demonstrated leadership and courage in advancing the quality of life in support of those experiencing outstanding struggles. The 2020-21 College of Arts and Science recipients are:

  • Anna Simonson: Pride Centre Doug Wilson Award, second-year student in linguistics
  • Kingslei Medina: Help Centre Award, third-year student in geology with a minor in chemistry

The Vera Pezer Award for Student Enhancement is presented to USask student volunteers who have given their time and energy to ensure that non-academic facets of the student experience are enhanced. The 2020-21 College of Arts and Science recipients are:

  • Elisabeth Bauman: Member of Student Council, second-year English student
  • Brenna Scarfe: USSU Centres, second-year archaeology student

The Instructional Support Award honours outstanding delivery of instructional support at USask and serves to recognize the importance academic advising has on enhancing the student experience. The 2020-21 recipient is:

  • Joel Yurach, Department of Biology
